Reversing memory loss in Alzheimer’s: taking a multi-therapeutic approach

IS THERE HOPE FOR ALZHEIMERS'S

Hi there,

The past two weeks have been extremely busy but tremendously inspiring.

I spent an amazing 5 days in Palm Springs, California, having been invited by Professor Dale Bredesen, one of the world’s leading research experts into Alzheimer’s Disease. In 2014 and in 2016, he published several case studies demonstrating reversal of mild to moderate cognitive decline in patients with Alzheimer’s Disease (AD).

Whilst it is still early days, what is remarkable about his method is that he uses a multi-pronged approach to treating patients with AD rather then simply looking for a single, magic bullet. He spent 30 years trying to find the drug cure for AD in a lab but realised a few years back that this would be unlikely, as he had identified at least 36 different pathways that can go wrong in this condition. He uses a brilliant analogy: if there are 36 holes in the roof, fixing one won’t stop the leak. He felt that whilst a drug may be helpful to fix one of the 36 holes, it would not be enough in isolation to make a difference in a patient's symptoms. His approach involves optimising multiple parameters in the body to see if he can shift the body’s balance from losing new memories to laying them down instead.

Wishing you the best of health,
Dr. Chatterjee.

In April‌ 2016, I travelled to the Buck Institute for Aging in California. This is my conversation with Professor Dale Bredesen who is successfully reversing memory loss in Alzheimer’s by taking a multi-therapeutic approach.

Children in England are starting their days fuelled by more than half their recommended daily intake of sugar, it was revealed earlier this month.

Feeling tremendously inspired at the moment. Just spent 5 days in Palm Springs, California with Professor Dale Bredesen.

He has published case studies on reversing cognitive decline in Alzheimer's disease and I am honoured that he invited me over to the US to speak and deliver information and education around his work.

Delighted to be having discussions on how we can help more people by bringing this approach back to the UK and Europe.

On a personal note, not many things have inspired me more in 16 years of seeing patients and I am truly humbled to be contributing to discussions with thought leaders at the cutting edge of science, trying to determine what may be possible for people who currently have very little hope.
